Middle English (late 14th century), from Old French zodiaque, from Latin zÅdiacus, from Ancient Greek ζωδιακός κÏκλος (zÅdiakos kuklos, "circle of little animals"), from ζώδι(αι)ον, the diminutive of ζῶον (zÅon, "animal").
